Breakfast of champions Turmeric porridge!
Although porridge is seen as a winter breakfast, this is a really fantastic recipe to have up your sleeve at any time of year, if you are wanting to have a breakfast that keeps you full and provides you with nutritional benefits!
Nutritional tip: Oats contain beta-glucan, which help slow digestion and improve blood cholesterol levels and foster good-for-you gut bacteria. They contain soluble fiber, believed to reduce your low-density lipoprotein (LDL), the “bad” cholesterol, making it a heart-healthy food and a great addition to your nutritional plan. Adding some protein like greek yoghurt or a nut butter will keep you full and satisfied all morning long!
Ingredients:
1 cup of oats
1 cup of plant based milk
1 small apple grated with skin
1 cup of water or a big more
1 tsp of fresh turmeric
Ground black pepper
Pinch of salt
Optimal:
Fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, nuts and herbs
Method:
Place oats, milk, grated apple 🍎 then mix.
Add water mix and let it simmer away for about 5 minutes.
Add turmeric, cracked pepper and salt
Remove from heat
Plate to your liking: with fruits, nuts, yoghurt or even some nut butter.
Turmeric has anti-inflammatory benefits.
Grated apple has the pectin which promote digestive health.
Adding the black pepper can significantly improve absorption of the polyphenol curcumin meaning make it more bioavailable to our digestive system.
All in all… a super wholesome and delicious breakfast!
